I would agree that it is great the the Greatfull Dead on now on the archive. However, why the hell do you guys have to upload 100 shows at a time. Evertime I try to upload a show, it takes 3-4 days for the damn thing to get moved because there are so many damn GD shows in line. Show some respect for everyone else around here, ok.

You are right that user inserts should get processed quickly, and jon took steps to do exactly that. If they are not, then we should fix it.

The slow down might be in the curatorial processes if you are indeed seeing many day delays. This is the work of volunteers to try to maintain quality. We are very very happy that these volunteers spend so much of their free time on this.

Therefore, we are trying to do what we can on the technology, but there might be other issues that are harder to change (without more volunteers :)

Thank you for working to keep an archive up-to-date and current.

On that note, I'm pretty much positive the slowdown is not in the curatorial process - the Live Music Archive volunteer admins are efficient enough at checking and approving (after the derivations process has finished) that I rarely see shows sit unapproved for more than 12-24 hours. I can help out (I approve pretty much all the other collections) if that ever gets to be an issue. Yay.

It's not a race, and 3 days is nothing compared to the decades that the show will be in here once the import has completed. There's nobody out there that can't wait 3 more days to hear a show.

Patience.

Well put.

In addition, the Grateful Dead shows are queued with the lowest priority, meaning that any show that comes in will go before it, so this has little to do with GD additions.

OK, if thats true, then how come when I check the "Where Am I In Line" page, it has my show AFTER the GD shows?

Besides, no one is ever going to download the GD shows that fast, so why do we need 100 added everyday? The shows I/we are putting up are about a week old, meaning there is a demand for it, the GD shows are 20-30 years old. I doubt anyone is in a huge hurry to get those.

I think if you really need your shows spread so quickly, you should BT them first. This is an archive, for long term storage and use, hence the www.archive.org. Your comment of "Show some respect for everyone else around here, ok." is very hypocritical. Show some respect for the people that are tyring very hard to please everyone and keeping this site running. Believe it or not, your show is no more important than any other on here, and if upload 2,000 GD shows a day is best for the archive, that's what should be done.

And in my opinion, the person who has waited 30 years for a Dead show should get it before the person who's been waiting 5 days for your show. They've been waiting much longer :)

cheers

The reason your shows appear after the GD in line is this:

When there are no other shows to process, it will process a Grateful Dead show. If you add your show while all the servers are processing GD shows, then your show has to wait (no longer than 2 hours) before it will get processed.

Let me know which show took too long (post the URL), and I'll verify the time between when you added it to the time it was approved by a curator.
